  词汇详解:

  1. conjure [ˈkʌndʒər]

  to do clever tricks such as making things seem to appear or disappear as if by magic 变魔术;变戏法;使…变戏法般地出现(或消失)

  例:Her grandfather taught her to conjure.

  她的祖父教她变魔术。

  例2:He could conjure coins from behind people's ears.

  他可以从人们的耳朵后面变出硬币来。

  2. crack [kræk]

  V.①to break without dividing into separate parts; to break sth in this way 破裂;裂开;断裂

  例:Her lips were dry and cracked.

  ②to break open or into pieces; to break sth in this way 砸开;破开;砸碎;打碎

  例:His face cracked into a smile.

  例1:a spell of warm weather

  例2:She went to the doctor complaining of dizzy spells .

  例:He conjured a delicious meal out of a few leftovers.

  3. crack down (on sb/sth)

  to try harder to prevent an illegal activity and deal more severely with those who are caught doing it 竭力取缔;严厉打击;镇压

  例:Police are cracking down on drug dealers.

  警方正在严厉打击毒品贩子。

  4. spell sth out

  to explain sth in a simple, clear way 解释明白;讲清楚

  例1:You know what I mean─I'm sure I don't need to spell it out.

  你明白我的意思——肯定不需要我解释了。

  例2:Let me spell out why we need more money.

  我来说说清楚,我们为什么还需要钱。
