The tragic tale of a man who lost everything for love His tangled life goes on stage.

The tragic tale of a man who lost EVERYTHING for love His tangled life goes on stage

A story that traces one man's political journey from his humble beginnings in the north to the capital's corridors of power and his dramatic downfall brought about by a woman...and a dodgy visa application.

It's David Blunkett: The Musical. The former Home Secretary's tangled love-life is being turned into a stage show.

Producer Martin Witts claims he has persuaded a "well-known rock star" to play the part of the 57-year-old politician.

He hopes to have the cast in place soon and the play on stage by the end of April. Martin describes it as a "tragi-comedy" and a "tribute to a Sheffield hero". He said: "It will be amusing - not a knocking piece."

Martin said Mr Blunkett's life has all the ingredients to make the show a hit.

He had an affair with married Kimberley Quinn and claims he is the father of her two-year-old son and unborn baby.

Mr Blunkett quit the Cabinet in December after a probe linked him to the visa application of his ex-lover's nanny. He was accused of fast-tracking the papers. Jazz, rap, opera and R&B is to feature in the show, being written by journalist Ginny Dougray.

There will also be a sub-plot based around Spectator editor Boris Johnson's alleged affair with columnist Petronella Wyatt.

Casting for the Johnson, Wyatt and Quinn roles are underway. The script for the show, which will also play at the Edinburgh Festival, is being finalised.

Perhaps Martin's next project could be Blair: The Musical. The tale of a humble lawyer who met a Texan cowboy and cooked up stories about evil weapons just so the pair could go off gunslinging.
