The new Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging satellite for monitoring Arctic shipping routes is capable of providing a one-day revisit of most areas along maritime paths across the Arctic. Its data will be used to monitor and predict sea ice, climate change and marine disasters, offering important data support for the safety of Arctic shipping routes.
Fast and high-precision monitoring of Arctic sea ice has become an urgent task for scientists. However, current in-orbit SAR satellites cannot fully meet the requirement. The new satellite is expected to improve China's polar monitoring capability.
用于北极航道监测的合成孔径雷达成像卫星能对北极航道大部分区域做到24小时内重访。该卫星能够为观测海冰变化、海洋灾害、环境灾害提供支持，为航道安全保障提供重要数据。
对北极海冰进行快 速高精度监测已成为科学家的紧迫任务。然而，目前在轨的合成孔径雷达卫星尚不能完全满足这一要求。新型卫星有望在此方面提高中国的极地监测能力。
