Twelve Bronze Drum Tunes
The Buyi people’s bronze drum is one of the ancient percussion instruments of the Buyi people. It is made of bronze and often performed alongside the suona, pigu, daca, raoba, and luomugun, replicating the performing styles of the ancient times. The bronze drums are beaten to set tunes; most commonly these are twelve drum tunes. Performed during celebrations and sacrifice and worshipping ceremonies, the Buyi people’s bronze drum is an ethnic instrument that carries with it distinctive features of the Buyi people. The twelve bronze drum tunes were included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2006.
