青年女子身着她们最为漂亮的和服,欢天喜地的与家人朋友庆祝自己的成年日。但喜庆背后却掩饰不了日本青年人口下降,出生率低,以及严重老龄化问题。这些问题将会比经济放缓还要糟糕。再看我们中国和邻近的韩国,老龄化形势也颇为严峻。有人说, “21世纪是老人的世纪”。

Japan is celebrating a special holiday for its young. This is the coming of age day, and Tokyo is filled with young people, wearing their very best kimonos, those special colorful kimonos celebrate and mark the coming of age.

These teenagers are becoming 20 years old, It's a joyous celebration in this country where teenagers and young people gather at city offices, dressing their best kimonos, celebrating their youth with their families. 

But it is also a sobering day for the graying society of Japan. The government reports 1.27 million people are the age of 20, that is a steady decline for 4 years in a row. The population of Japan also dropping , overall 4 years in a row.

Fewer children are being born, the birthrate here, 1. 37, among the lowest in the world. Women cite the lack of daycare and high cost of living in Japan, the exploding number of elderly, though, is compounding the problem.

By the year 2050, Japan predicts 40% of the population will be over the age of 65. It is a crippling population problem that could be worse than any global economic slowdown.
