Hence, it is also called a serial drama. The term “soap opera” originated from such dramas being typically sponsored by soap manufacturers in the past. The TV dramas on air at 8 o’clock are usually called soap operas, such as the super lengthy Korean dramas. The term is also commonly used to refer to TV dramas on family life and romantic relationships. The first soap opera appeared on August 22, 1922 on radio in the USA.
