考生如能正确地使用过渡词语来标示出句间的逻辑关系,使段内各句有机地衔接,表述出来
的语句就会有连贯性。例如:
He was stronger than I. He often protected me when someone wanted to strike me. I was more
clever. He often wanted me to make something like toy guns for him.
上例是由四个单句组成的,读起来连续性不强。如果作者根据各句所表达的意思进行修正,
使用恰当的过渡词语标示出句间的逻辑关系,就会使其连贯性得到明显的加强。在该例中,第一
句与第二句有因果关系,用过渡词therefore 连接可使前后更加紧密。第三句和第四句也有因果关
系,用过渡词hence 衔接,不但可以避免出therefore 的重复出现,又同样会起到承接上文的作用。
当然,此处不用hence 也可。现试将该例修正如下:
He was stronger than I, therefore when someone tried to strike me, he would protect me. But I was
more clever; (hence) he often asked me to make some toy guns for him.
过渡词的使用看起来简单,但事实上并非如此。用得不好,不但不能起到承上启下的作用,
反而会破坏段落或篇章的统一性,和连续性。例如:
He was a most diligent student in our class, yet he liked reading and often read while eating. He

在该例中,作者误用了并列连词yet。yet 一词多用于表示让步关系的句子里。但在该例中,
第一句的两个分句存在因果关系,显然用yet 是不合适的。如果把yet 去掉,中间不用过渡词,其
效果可能会更好些。该句的最后一句有增补、递进的意思,作者没有使用合适的过渡词来表示出
这一层关系。现将该例修正如下:
He was a most diligent student in our class. He liked reading and often read while eating. Besides,
he often played basketball with us.
