Some people believe that employers should not be concerned about the way their employees dress, but the quality of their work.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

参考范文The importance of dress code and appearance at workplaces has already been recognized and accepted, yet many are opposing a mandatory dress code as they believe the quality of employee’s work is far more significant to any enterprise. Personally, I believe it would be wise to lean more towards the working performance.

Making sure everyone in the workplace is dressed to certain standards cannot only create a general atmosphere of professionalism—whether it means three-piece suit or jeans-and-T-shirt. This is of great value in industries where image is highly valued and workplaces where face-to-face contact between employees and customers is regular and consistent, as when customers look at employees, they can see people who are dressed appropriately for the industry, which may boost their confidence in the business as a whole. Besides, such visual uniformity in the workplace can also promote the impression of “being a team” among the workforce, which can eventually stimulate sales by making employees conspicuous to customers.

Despite the benefits brought by dress code in enhancing working performance, one must notice the potential downsides of implementing one in certain industry, as clothes have a huge impact on how people feel, their confidence levels, and how they interact with others. An example of this is when everyone is forced to wear a suit and tie, a stuffy and conservative environment may highly likely be inherently created. In fact, for those innovating enterprises mainly focusing on inspiring creativity of employees to yield profits, a strict dress code is going to be counterproductive. Therefore, the appearance of employees is not with universal importance.

Overall, the priority of practicing a dress code should be determined by the nature of industry, as the pursuit of performance is the sole goal of any company.
