　　Stagnant Water With Ripples is a novel written by Li Jieren, and reflects the custom and traditions of Sichuan in 1900, and is Li’s representative work. The novel describes the time period from the Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895) up to the Boxer Treaty, signed a few years later in the suburbs of Chengdu. It recounts the foreign forces and the ups and downs of the two forces at that time.
