Its total length is 1, 794 kilometers, and, along with the Great Wall, it is one of the symbols of China' s magnificent ancient civilization. The Wuxi segment of the Grand Canal is both narrow and deep. It is flanked on both sides by row upon row of traditional Chinese dwellings with black- tile roofs and white walls.

　　Every year Wuxi hosts many tourist activities. From October 2 to 14 this year, the city will hold the "Wuxi Lake Tai International Fishing Contest". All those interested, groups or individuals, professionals or amateurs, are invited to register and take part.
