Lijiang is also well-known as the “city of love” in history. Many stories about life and dying for love have spreaded widely among the locals. Nowadays， for tourists home and abroad， the ancient town is regarded as a paradise of love and romance.

　　The Old Town of Lijiang at 2,400m altitude, also known as "Dayan Ancient Town", is the central city of Lijiang Naxi Autonomous County. As a famous historical cultural city in China, the Old Town of Lijiang was listed as a World Heritage Site. The Town is located in the center of Lijiangba of Yunnan Province in Southwest China and lies at the foot of Yulong Snow Mountain with Xiangshan Mountain and Jinhong Mountain to the north and Shizi Mountain to the west. The Old Town of Lijiang, together with three other national historical cities - Langzhong City of Sichuan Province, Pingyao City of Shanxi Province and Shexian County of Anhui Province - are regarded as "Four Ancient Cities of Best Preservation". As one of the second batch of historical cultural cities in China, the Old Town of Lijiang is one of the two ancient counties (the other being the Pingyao Ancient City of Shanxi Province) included in the World Cultural Heritage list as the whole ancient city.
