　　“托儿”本是北京方言，出现在上世纪九十年代初，最初指的是商店或是路边小摊儿雇上一个或几个人，假装成顾客，做出种种姿态，引诱真正的顾客购买其产品。此后中国各行各业都出现了形形色色的“托儿”一族，如“医托儿”等，其实这种促销方式都是利用了人贪小便宜和从众的心理。

　　Tuo’er, or capper is originally a word emerging from the Beijing dialect during the early 1990s. It referred to a person or a group of people who were hired by stores or roadside markets to pretend to be consumers so as to hoodwink onlookers into buying their products. Later on, various types of cappers across a spectrum of industries, such as hospital scalpers, began appearing. Such modes of promotion take advantage of people's greed and their drive to conform.
