开汽车/开飞机(“to drive”/ “to fly”)

Incorrect English:

“A pilot drives a plane.”

Correct English:

“A pilot flies a plane.”

Chinese:

飞行员开飞机。

解释：在汉语中，“to drive”和“to fly”都可以用来表示“开”的意思。学生们经常把“to fly”误说成“to drive”。在英文中，表示操作飞行物的动作的时候，我们用“to fly”。

Examples:

“The pilot will fly the plane from Guangzhou to Sydney. ”

“The ability to fly a helicopter is very useful in the military.”

Other examples of uses of the verb “to fly”:

“My son enjoys going to the park every Saturday to fly his kite.”
