  1. inducement [ɪn'dusmənt]

  N-COUNT If someone is offered an inducement to do something, they are given or promised gifts or benefits in order to persuade them to do it. 引诱物; 诱因

  eg: The ill acts are direct inducement to delinquency.

  不良行为是产生犯罪行为的直接诱因。

  2. mercenary ['mɝsənɛri]

  ADJ If you describe someone as mercenary, you are criticizing them because you think that they are only interested in the money that they can get from a particular person or situation. 惟利是图的;

  N-COUNT A mercenary is a soldier who is paid to fight by a country or group that they do not belong to. 雇佣兵

  eg: His actions are entirely mercenary.

  他的行为完全是为了钱。

  3. redemption [rɪ'dɛmpʃən]

  N-VAR Redemption is the act of redeeming something or of being redeemed by something. 救赎; 偿还;

  PHRASE If you say that someone or something is beyond redemption, you mean that they are so bad it is unlikely that anything can be done to improve them. 无可挽回的; 不可就药的

  eg: Creation and redemeption belong together.

  4. malicious [mə'lɪʃəs]

  ADJ If you describe someone's words or actions as malicious, you mean that they are intended to harm people or their reputation, or cause them embarrassment and upset. 恶意的

  eg: One cannot inure oneself altogether to such malicious criticism.

  note: inure, vt. 使…习惯;使…适应

  5. vulnerability [,vʌlnərə'bɪləti]

  n. susceptibility to injury or attack易受攻击,脆弱,弱点

  eg: Taking long-term courses of certain medicines may increase vulnerability to infection.

  长期服用某类药品可能会增加感染的可能性。

  note: course, N-COUNT A course of medical treatment is a series of treatments that a doctor gives someone. 疗程

  6. overhaul ['ovɚhɔl]

  V-T If a piece of equipment is overhauled, it is cleaned, checked thoroughly, and repaired if necessary. 全面检修

  eg: You should overhaul your car engine.

  7. hazard ['hæzɚd]

  N-COUNT A hazard is something which could be dangerous to you, your health or safety, or your plans or reputation. 危险;

  V-T If you hazard or if you hazard a guess, you make a suggestion about something which is only a guess and which you know might be wrong. 大胆猜测

  eg: Explosions, though infrequent, are an occupational hazard for coal-miners.

  N-UNCOUNT In computer technology, cyberspace refers to data banks and networks, considered as a place. 网络空间

  eg: It's easy to create a phony identity in cyberspace.

  note: phony, ADJ If you describe something as phony, you disapprove of it because it is false rather than genuine. 假的

  9. glitch [ɡlɪtʃ]

  N-COUNT A glitch is a problem that stops something from working properly or being successful. 故障

  eg: She declined to disclose what caused the glitch.

  她拒绝透露导致该问题的原因。

  note: disclose, V-T If you disclose new or secret information, you tell people about it. 透露
