  1. punitive ['pjʊnətɪv]

  ADJ Punitiveactions are intended to punish people. 惩罚性的

  eg: Theirsupervision would seem natural, not punitive.

  他们的监管似乎很自然,而没有惩罚性。

  2. spiral ['spaɪrəl]

  V-T/V-I Ifsomething spirals or is spiralled somewhere, it grows or moves in a spiralcurve.使……螺旋式生长或移动; 螺旋式生长或移动

  eg: Her hair wasstyled into cascade of spiral curls.

  她的头发被做成了瀑布般的螺旋形卷发

  note: cascade, N-COUNTIf you refer to a cascade of something, you mean that there is a large amountof it. 大量;瀑布状的东西

  3. rogue [roɡ]

  N-COUNT A rogue isa man who behaves in a dishonest or criminal way. 流氓、无赖;

  N-COUNT If a manbehaves in a way that you do not approve of but you still like him, you canrefer to him as a rogue. 捣蛋鬼;小坏蛋

  eg: Don’t buy aused car from that rogue.

  不要从那个无赖手里买旧车。

  4. reap [rip]

  V-T If you reapthe benefits or the rewards of something, you enjoy the good things that happenas a result of it. 获得;收割

  eg: The peasantsare reaping a field of barley.

  note: N-UNCOUNTBarley is a grain that is used to make food, beer, and whisky.大麦

  5. strife [straɪf]

  N-UNCOUNT Strifeis strong disagreement or fighting. 冲突,斗争

  eg: She wasunhappy because of the family strife.

  6. maritime ['mærɪtaɪm]

  ADJ Maritime isused to describe things relating to the sea and to ships.海事的

  eg: England was agreat maritime power.

  英国曾事海上的强国。

  7. containment ['mærɪtaɪm]

  n. [U](formal),the act of keeping something under control, stopping itbecoming more powerful etc 控制;遏制、阻止

  eg: China’s beenthrough the most severe trade containment sinceentering the WTO.

  ADJ Bilateralnegotiations, meetings, or agreements, involve only the two groups or countriesthat are directly concerned. 双边的

  eg: Our bilateral trade shows great promise for the future.

  note: greatpromise 大有前途、前程远大

  9. curb [kɝb]

  n, the raised edgeof a road, between where people can walk and cars can drive路缘(街道或人行道的)路缘(俗称马路牙子)

  V-T, to control orlimit something in order to prevent it from having a harmful effect

  控制,抑制,约束

  eg: We can’t allbe heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb andclap as they go by.

  We must curb the spread and use of these weapons.

  10. warrant['wɔrənt]

  eg: The incumbent should do what he thinks is best and livewith it.

  14. ramp [ræmp]

  N-COUNT A ramp isa sloping surface between two places that are at different levels.斜坡;敲诈

  eg: After the ramp, the road veered to the right abruptly.

  note: veer, V-I Ifsomething veers in a certain direction, it suddenly moves in that direction. 突然转向

  15. mega ['mɛɡə]

  ADJ Young peoplesometimes use mega in front of nouns in order to emphasize that the thing theyare talking about is very good, very large, or very impressive.巨、极、非常、特别
