别浦今朝暗，罗帷午夜愁。
鹊辞穿线月，花入曝衣楼。
天上分金镜，人间望月钩。
钱塘苏小小，又值一年秋。

Magpie wings shaded the Milky Way light;
Behind curtains grief gnawed her heart tonight.
With birds leaving, bridge gone, the reunion was too brief to bear;
Petals drifted into her chamber where she put up her dress to air.
They each kept the half mirror when they had to separate;
Now on earth, to the crescent moon, he looked up, so desperate.
For the next time for him to meet his sweet heart,
He had to wait till autumn, a whole year apart.

The Shores of Parting are dark this morning,
The silken bed-hangings mournful at midnight.
Magpies leave the moon of threaded silk,
Flowers fill the towers where clothes are aired.
Up in the sky, half of a golden mirror,
Down among men, we gaze at a jade hook.
In Ch‘ien-t‘ang city, Su Hsiao-hsiao
Endures the autumn of yet one more year.
