指“废墟、遗迹”,往往表示建筑物,是可数名词
the ruins of a Roman castle一座诺曼式城堡的遗迹
remains
意为“古代遗物,遗迹,遗址”,可以是物品或建筑物等,本身为复数
fossil remains of prehistoric animals史前动物的化石
还可指“剩余物”或“遗骸,遗体”the remains of the lunch剩下的午饭
relic
除表示“遗物,遗迹”外,还可指“遗风、遗俗”等文化传统的遗留物
